Why Sundance Film Festival?

Started in 1985, Sundance Film Festival has gained international recognition as one of the world’s most prestigious celebrations of independent film. Each year, the festival strives to highlight filmmakers and creators from a vast array of backgrounds and stories. The Sundance Institute has allied themselves with a multitude of progressive organizations, including Blackhouse Foundation, Film Independent, Latino Public Broadcasting, and many others. All year long, Sundance offers intensives and fellowships to uplift and support minority producers, directors, and screenwriters. In the 2020 festival, 118 feature films will be premiering from 27 different countries. Of the filmmakers behind these works, 38% are people of color and 46% are women. Through highlighting a broad assortment of artists, Sundance Film Festival shows a variety of films that tell many different stories.
